20.10.1898:   Commissioned.
-20.10.1900:   Because of major problems of the boilers installed in the ship, the complete boiler system has to be replaced. It takes two years until the ship can be sent off for first trials and tests.
08.06.1901:   Decommissioned.
03.05.1902:   Recommissioned, the Freya is attached to the artillery experimental command.
Autumn 1902:   Participation in the autumn fleet maneuvers.
Autumn 1903:   Participation in the autumn fleet maneuvers.
11.01.1904:   Decommissioned.
1905-1907:   Reconstruction at Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven.
04.04.1907:   Reclassified as training ship, followed by several training voyages in the Baltic Sea and North Atlantic.
1911-1913:   Reconstruction at Kaiserliche Werft Danzig, after reconstruction the Freya is classified as material reserve for the training ships and is not put into active service again.
Aug 1914:   Reassigned to fleet services for coastal defense
27.08.1914:   Decommissioned because of bad general condition, used as a floating barrack  .
Apr 1915 - 1918:   Used as a training ship.
1920:   Stricken from fleet list.
1921:   Scrapped  in Hamburg-Harburg.
