27.06.1894:  Gefion is commissioned.
02.10.1894:  Training and trials.
-05.06.1895:  Because of several malfunctions detected during the trials, Gefion has to be reconstructed and modified.
Jun 1895:  Celebrations at the opening of the Kaiser-Wilhlem Channel (Kiel Channel).
Jul - Sep 1895:  Escort of the Imperial Yacht Hohenzollern .
Spring 1896:  Participation in fleet maneuvers.
Jul 1896:  Escort of the Imperial Yacht Hohenzollern .
Autumn 1896:  Participation in fleet maneuvers.
-Jun 1897:  Guard ship in the Baltic Sea.
Jul 1897:  Escort of the Imperial Yacht Hohenzollern .
22.09 - Dec 1897:  Repairs.
16.12.1897:  Sent to South East Asia.
Aug 1897:  Visit to several Japanese ports.
Sep 1897:  Visit to Wladivostok.
Jun 1900:  Ordered back to Germany.
22.09.1900: 

Arrived in Wilhelmshaven.

01.10.1900:  Decommissioned.
-1904:  Modernization and repairs, but the ship is put into reserve status.
10.08.1914:  The Gefion is prepared for recommissisoning, but because of missing personal, the ship is not put into active service again.
1916:  Used as a floating barrack.
05.11.1919:  Sold and rebuild as a transport ship. Renamed to Adolf Sommerfeld .
11.10.1920:  First trials as transport ship.
1923:  Scrapped in Danzig.
