History

The Gorizia was the last surviving cruiser of the Zara class. Damaged by an air raid on 10.04.1943, the ship was undergoing repairs in September 1943 when Italy surrendered. Scuttled by the Italians the ship was raised by the Germans but it was decided not to repair the ship. Moved to the entrance of La Spezia harbor, the Gorizia was damaged and sunk in shallow waters by an combined Italian-British assault raid. After the war, the wreck was raised and scrapped.
