14.06.1913:   First unsuccessful attempt to launch the ship, but it got stuck on the shipyard.
12.07.1913:   Successful launch.
27.07 - 30.07.1914:   Although not commissioned yet, the Derfflinger is part of the naval defenses of Kiel.
01.09.1914:   Part of the 1st Reconnaissance Group (1. Aufklärungsgeschwader) after commissioning.
20.11.1914:   First operational action, NW of Helgoland.
16.12.1914:   Operation J2: Coastal bombardment of Hartlepool.
24.01.1915:   Battle at the Doggerbank against British battlecruisers, Derfflinger is hit once, but damages the British BC Lion .
-14.02.1915:   Repairs.
March - May 1915:   Participation in several fleet actions in the North Sea.
28.06.1915:   Mayor turbine breakdown.
August 1915:   Derfflinger is used to test alternative courses to enter the Baltic Sea.
05-06.03.1916:   Operations at the Hoofoten.
24.04.1916:   Coastal bombardment of Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
31.05.1916:   Battle of Jutland: Derfflinger  sinks British battlecruisers Queen Mary and Invincible . The ship is badly
damaged (17 heavy and 4 medium hits) and returns to Wilhelmshaven with 3000 t water in the ship and 157 crew casualties.
-15.10.1916:   Repairs at Howaldtswerke, Kiel.
23.04.1918:   Unsuccessful raid in the Northern North Sea.
24.11.1918:   Interned at Scapa Flow.
21.06.1919:   Scuttled by own crew.
1939:   Wreck raised.
-1946:   Broken down at Rosyth.
