07.04.1894:   First tests and trials, several engine problems required modifications in the boiler system.
15.12.1894:   Heimdall is commissioned.
Apr - Jun 1895:   Exercises in the Baltic Sea.
05.07.1895:   The ship is decommissioned because of a lack in available crew members.
08.08.1897:   Recommissioned.
08.09.1897:   Sent to Kiel for repairs after engine breakdowns off the Danish coast.
26.07.1898:   Recommissioned.
29.09.1898:   Decommissioned.
24.07.1900:   Recommissioned, Heimdall takes part in fleet maneuvers.
29.09.1900:   Decommissioned, the ship is sent to Kiel for major modifications.
Jul - Sep 1902:   Recommissioned for fleet exercises, decommissioned after that.
Jul - Sep 1903:   Recommissioned for fleet exercises, decommissioned after that.
14.09.1914:   At the outbreak of World War I, the Heimdall is attached to the VI. Squadron.
19.09.1914:   Assigned to patrol duty in the German Beight.
23.12.1914:   Collision with the battleship Kaiserin .
Sep 1915:   Used as a target ship.
02.03.1916:   Decommissioned.
-Dec 1917:   Used as a floating barrack for U-boat crews in Emden.
17.06.1919:   Removed form fleet lists.
1921:   Scrapped.
