18.05.1901 Commissioned.
11.07.1901 One of the boilers explodes during trials, killing three crew members.
- October 1902 Repairs.
22.10.1902 Attached to the 1st Cruiser Squadron.
December 1902 Training voyage to Norway and maneuvers in the North Sea.
01.02.1903 Attached to the new formed reconnaissance forces.
Spring 1903 Voyage to Spain and France.
July 1903 Training voyage to Norway.
Sep - Oct 1903 The Ariadne takes part in the anual autumn fleet maneuvers in the Baltic and North Sea.
Spring 1904 Participation in the spring fleet maneuvers, visit to Britain.
03-10.09.1904 The Ariadne is used as an escort for the Imperial yacht Hohenzollern .
1905 Fleet maneuvers,  rescue operations for Linienschiff Mecklenburg which ran aground.
February 1906 Escorts the Linienschiff Preussen to Copenhagen (funeral of the Danish King)
22.09.1906 Ariadne is decommissioned and put into fleet reserve.
02.08.1914 Recommissioned as flagship of the harbour-flotilla Jade/Weser.
28.08.1914 In a reconnaissance operation near Helgoland, the Ariadne is attacked by two British battlecruisers. After several hits, the speed of the ship was reduced to 15 kn and several other small cruisers were sent to assist the Ariadne . Two and a half hours after the battle had started the Ariadne capsized and sunk, 64 crew members died.
