14.11.1908:  Dresden is commissioned
28.11.1908:  During trials, the Dresden rams and sinks the Swedish ship Cäcilie , the small cruiser is heavily damaged.
07.09.1909:  Dresden enters fleet service.
11.09.1909:  Sent to the USA.
24.09 - 09.10.1909:  The cruiser takes part in New York fleet parade.
22.10.1909:  Arrival in Germany, attached to the reconnaissance forces.
16.02.1910:  Collision with small cruiser Königsberg , minor damages.
-1913:  Participation in fleet exercises and maneuvers.
-23.09.1913:  Part of the Mediterranean Division, operations in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
27.12.1913:  Sent to Mexico.
21.01.1914:  Arrives in Vera Cruz.
20-24.07.1914:  Dresden transfers the former Mexican President Huerta to Jamaica.
31.07.1914:  The cruiser gets orders to prepare for cruiser warfare in the Atlantic.
-September 1914:  Operations in the South Atlantic, two British transports are sunk, two other captured.
12.10.1914:  Arrives at the Easter Islands. The cruiser joins the German South-East Asian Squadron.
01.11.1914:  Battle of Coronel.
08.12.1914:  Battle of the Falkland Islands. The Dresden is the only German ship that manages to escape.
09.12.1914-14.02.1915:  The ship passes Cape Horn and hides in different channels and near several Islands in the Cape Horn area. Because of the incomplete navigation charts, the ship is not detected by the British fleet, but has to change its location several times after being detected by Chilean vessels.
08.03.1915:  Arrives at the Comberland-Beight at the island of Mas-a-Tierra. Because of the bad technical conditions and lack of supplies, the ship is not operational anymore.
14.03.1915:  The British armored cruisers Kent , small cruiser Glasgow and auxiliary cruiser Orama arrive at the island and attack the German ship. After negotiations, the Dresden is scuttled at 11:15.
