Wartime history
Like many other torpedoboats, those six ships were first given to Italy and taken over by the Kriegsmarine in April 1943, transferred from La Spezia to Toulon. It soon became clear, that the ships were in a very bad condition, ammunition, personnel shortages and their lack of offensive capabilities made it impossible to use them as torpedo boats. Therefore all ships were used as escort vessels and operated in the 3. and 4. escort division. TA13 (former F.R.45 (ital.), La Bayonnaise (fr)) was also never put into active service, it was scuttled in Toulon on 25.08.1944.
