Z 24 (1944)


Z24 was part of the 8th destroyer flotilla - also called  the "Narvik" flotilla. Between June and October 1941 attached to the 6th destroyer flotilla in France then stationed in Kirkens and used for unsuccessful operations along the Murman coast until the end of 1941 when returned to Germany. After a short visit in Germany from January to March of 1942, the Z24 was part of the "Zerstörergruppe Arktis" and operated against the convoy PQ 13. In April 1942, Z24 , Z25 and Hermann Schoemann attacked the damaged British cruiser Edinburgh , damaging the British ship that it had to be sunk. Until Mid of 1942 the ship was based in Narvik and was transferred to France in March 1943 where it was sunk on 25.08.1944 after air attacks by British Beaufighters near Le Verdon at 45°31'N,14°12'E.
